भारतीय और विश्व के इतिहास में 11 सितंबर की प्रमुख घटनाएं इस प्रकार हैं:-
1882 : तमिल कवि सुब्रमण्यम भारती का जन्म।
1893 : अमेरिका के शिकागो में आयोजित विश्व धर्म सम्मेलन में स्वामी विवेकानंद ने सांप्रदायिकता, धार्मिक कट्टरता और हिंसा पर ऐतिहासिक भाषण दिया।
1895 : महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और प्रसिद्ध गांधीवादी नेता विनोबा भावे का जन्म।
1906 : महात्मा गांधी ने दक्षिण अफ़्रीका में सत्याग्रह आन्दोलन आरंभ किया।
1919 : अमेरिकी नौसेना ने होंडुरास पर आक्रमण किया।
1922 : आस्ट्रेलिया के मेलबर्न में सचित्र दैनिक समाचार पत्र द सन न्यूज पेक्टोरियल की शुरूआत।
1939 : इराक और सऊदी अरब ने जर्मनी के खिलाफ युद्ध की घोषणा की।
1941 : अमेरिकी रक्षा मंत्रालय मुख्यालय पेंटागन का निर्माण शुरू।
1948 : ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत के प्रमुख नेता और ‘मुस्लिम लीग’ के अध्यक्ष मुहम्मद अली जिन्ना का निधन।
1951 : फ्लोरेंस चैडविक ने इंग्लिश चैनल तैरकर पार किया। उन्हें इंग्लैंड से फ्रांस पहुंचने में 16 घंटे और 19 मिनट लगे। ऐसा करने वाली वह पहली महिला।
1961 : विश्व वन्यजीव कोष की स्थापना।
1962 : मशहूर इंग्लिश रॉक बैंड ‘दि बीटल्स’ ने अपने पहले एकल हिट एलबम ‘लव मी डू’ के गाने रिकार्ड किए।
1968 : एयर फ्रांस का विमान नाइस के निकट दुर्घटनाग्रस्त। हादसे में 89 यात्रियों और चालक दल के छह सदस्यों की मौत।
2001: अमेरिका में आतंकवादियों ने विमान अपहरण कर न्यूयार्क के वर्ल्ड ट्रेड टावर की दो इमारतों, वर्जीनिया स्थित पेंटागन और पेन्सिलवेनिया पर हमला किया।
2003 : चीन के विरोध के बावजूद अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति जार्ज बुश तिब्बत के धार्मिक नेता दलाई लामा से मिले।
2005 : गाजा पट्टी में 38 साल से जारी सैन्य शासन समाप्त करने की घोषणा।
2006 : प्रख्यात बंगलादेशी लेखिका तस्लीमा नसरीन ने भारतीय नागरिकता की मांग की।
2019 : अमेरिका ने प्रतिबंधित संगठन तहरीक-ए-तालिबान पाकिस्तान (टीटीपी) के सरगना नूर वली महसूद पर प्रतिबंध लगाया और उसे वैश्विक आतंकवादी करार दिया।
2020 : सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता स्वामी अग्निवेश का निधन।
